A Russian Winter Beverage

Ingredients

  • 10 cups water or red wine
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 Tbs whole cloves
  • 1 tsp ginger
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 16 oz blackberry jam

Optional

  • 1 mint leaf
  • 2 dried chili peppers

Directions

  1. In a medium sauce pan, combine all the ingredients.
  2. Slowly bring mixture to boil over medium heat, stirring frequently. When honey and jam are completely dissolved remove from heat.
  3. Let the Sbiten cool, then strain through cheesecloth, then transfer to airtight container.
  4. Refrigerate and reheat for serving.
